Function: Fundraising

Fundraising covers the money nonprofits receive as gifts: individual donations, corporate giving and grants. Systems usually record a donor, an amount, a date, a campaign code, a fund code, and a receipt.

Common features include recurring giving, tax-efficient receipting, donor stewardship, major gifts and legacies, and fund accounting. Sponsored runs and challenge events belong here too, not under events and ticketing, because the software handles sponsorship pages and gift processing, not seats.

This domain depends heavily on national tax and payment rules, such as Gift Aid in the UK, ANBI in the Netherlands, and 5×1000 in Italy. Most products are built around the rules of one market. Donorfy, Bloomerang and Virtuous are among the few that work across several English-speaking markets at once. Fundraising systems often include a basic membership or volunteer field, but without full functionality in either area. Regular giving is sometimes marketed as membership, even without the tiers or renewal process membership needs.
