Object flexibility: Developer or vendor

A route to new record types exists and is regularly used, but requires writing, packaging and deploying installable code. The work may be done by an organisation’s own developers, though in this sector it is more often bought from the vendor or an implementation partner as an ongoing service.

What separates this from having no route at all is evidence of established practice: these systems are extended in the normal course of business, not merely in principle. The capability carries a cost and a lead time, so the practical question is who does the work and on what terms.
