Galette

Organisation & background

Galette is a free, open-source (GPL) tool that originated in 2007 at Aldil, a Lyon-based free-software association, and has been maintained since by lead developer Johan Cwiklinski.

Functionality

Galette is a narrowly scoped, open-source membership and dues-management tool for small French associations. A self-service member portal supports online dues payment and profile updates, and a contributions dashboard flags upcoming membership expiries. It includes graphical membership-status reporting, a public member directory, triggered mailing for events like a new-member welcome, customisable PDF document templates, and field-level custom fields. Rights are assigned at the action level (create/edit contributions or members) rather than through a formal role hierarchy, and an official and third-party plugin ecosystem (rental/equipment, aerodrome, vehicle management) requires version-lockstep updates.

Localised features

A Reçus fiscaux extension generates French tax-deductible donation receipts, alongside dues and donation tracking, automatic payment reminders, and group and committee organisation.

Implementation model

Self-service: Self-hostable, with independent guidance noting system-administrator competency is needed.

Hosting

You can choose: vendor-hosted (SaaS) or self-hosted. Self-hosted or via independent third-party hosting providers.
