Function: Congregation and church management

Church management software, sometimes sold for temples, synagogues or mosques, is built for religious organisations. Instead of treating people mainly as donors or members, it is built around the congregation itself. Most systems combine giving, congregant records, worship or service scheduling and volunteer rostering in one place, things that other kinds of software usually split between separate fundraising and membership tools.

Common features include recurring donations and receipting, congregant or devotee records with household and attendance tracking, worship or service scheduling, volunteer rostering, and features built for a specific faith, such as sacramental record-keeping for Catholic parishes or communication in local languages for Hindu temples.

How organisations buy this software depends on how they are governed, not on their faith. Congregations that run independently, such as most evangelical churches, synagogues, mosques and temples, buy software directly, and there are many products to choose from. Congregations that report to a central authority, such as Catholic parishes reporting to a diocese or Switzerland’s cantonal churches, usually can’t buy their own software, so what they use focuses on registry and reporting instead.
