Organisation & background
Church Social Inc., founded in 2012, positions itself as a congregation-wide self-service platform (‘less admin, more ministry’). It reaches a large number of people in total, with adoption concentrated in Canadian Reformed and Free Reformed congregations.
Functionality
Church Social is a church and congregation-management platform designed to be used by the whole congregation, not just office staff. Members can log in via the web or a mobile app to see a directory, shared calendar, sermon archive and their own giving history, while administrators manage records, schedules, messaging and reporting from one place. A separate leadership tier gives pastors and elders access to more sensitive pastoral-care information, such as visit records and shepherding-group assignments.
Localised features
Automated donation tax-receipt generation compliant with CRA, Canada’s tax authority, and IRD, New Zealand’s tax authority, directly from contribution data, plus a member-facing ‘My Contributions’ self-service history and receipt page.
Implementation model
Self-service: Free, vendor-assisted one-time Excel-based data migration.
Hosting
Cloud-hosted by the vendor, built on Heroku with a PostgreSQL database and S3 file storage.
