Organisation & background
DonorPerfect is built by SofterWare, Inc., based in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, employee-owned since 1981 with no outside investors. SofterWare acquired DonorPerfect from Starkland Systems in 2002, and its portfolio also includes Causeview, a Salesforce-based product for higher-education advancement, and Givecloud.
Functionality
DonorPerfect is a fundraising CRM based on constituent, gift and pledge records, used mainly through its web edition, DonorPerfect Online. User Defined Fields and a Calculated Fields module extend the records, SmartActions automate emails, tasks and field updates when triggers fire, and Selection Filters build compound queries for segmentation. Gifts are entered and receipted in batches. It connects to other tools through the DPConnect partner programme.
Localised features
Markets specific UK and Canada support: a Montreal office for bilingual service and tax-receipting standards from CRA, Canada’s tax authority, GDPR compliance tooling for consent and communication preferences, and an automated UK Gift Aid claims feature that submits electronically to HMRC, the UK’s tax authority, with a full audit trail.
Implementation model
Self-service. The vendor delivers structured onboarding via named in-house specialist roles (Implementation Coordinators, Forms/Payment specialists, Training) rather than third-party partners.
Hosting
Cloud-hosted by the vendor, hosted on Amazon Web Services. A ‘Data Assurance Plan’ provides daily downloadable backups, which can optionally be automated to the organisation’s own servers.
