UK charity software broadly splits into donor-facing fundraising and charities delivering services under government contract, since funding for the sector comes from a mix of individual giving and government contracts, particularly in health, social care and homelessness.

The fundraising side is shaped by Gift Aid, a scheme letting a charity reclaim the tax a donor already paid on their gift, filed electronically through HMRC’s Charities Online service. Gift Aid handling is close to universal across fundraising products.

Charities working under government contract are shaped by sector-specific compliance rather than generic case-tracking. Examples include Legal Aid Agency rules for advice services and SORP-compliant accounting for NHS-linked charities.

Beyond these two, the UK market has dedicated products across most other areas of charity work, including grant-making, church administration, and volunteering, where Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check status is commonly tracked on the volunteer record.
