Donarius

Organisation & background

Nuverb Systems Inc., based in Toronto, Canada, first filed the DONARIUS trademark in 1999. It has a large customer base of churches and ministries, and is a direct competitor to DONATION, serving an overlapping small-church and small-nonprofit market in Canada and the US.

Functionality

Donarius is Windows desktop software for churches and nonprofits to track donors, record donations and pledges, and print charitable tax receipts. It has a base program with optional modules for pledges, online giving, non-cash gifts, custom receipt designs, letters and family relationships. A restricted counter mode lets volunteer collection counters enter an offering without seeing donor names or totals.

Localised features

Receipting and gift-in-kind rules compliant with CRA, Canada’s tax authority, with encrypted PDF receipts meeting CRA and IRS, the US tax authority, format requirements. Vendor-recommended Canadian-hosted file-sync tools, Sync and GoodSync, support CRA data-residency compliance, and it also supports non-North-American fiscal year-ends, such as Australia’s.

Implementation model

Self-service. A free downloadable trial, with vendor-supported import from delimited text files for migration. Reviewers describe support as responsive.

Hosting

Self-hosted only: a single-user local Windows application. Multi-computer access works through general file-sync services (e.g. Dropbox-style tools), not a purpose-built server or cloud setup.
