Function: Grant-making

Grant-making is the funder side of giving: distributing money to other organisations or individuals. Receiving a grant is the opposite of this and belongs to fundraising instead.

Common features include programme and budget setup, multi-stage assessment and panel-review workflow, applicant and grantee portals, disbursement and compliance monitoring, and portfolio analytics.

The US has the largest market, with software built around the federal government’s grants-management framework. India has a separate, statutory system: mandatory corporate social-responsibility spending above set thresholds, which is different from the voluntary grant-making covered here. Many grant-making organisations, especially large foundations funded by an endowment, don’t fundraise at all, so a product that does both well is uncommon.
