CiviCRM via Systopia

Organisation & background

CiviCRM is an international open-source project (AGPLv3-licensed, free to use), stewarded by CIVICRM LLC. Systopia is a Gold-level CiviCRM Agency Partner since 2013, and is the primary developer of the German-specific extension cluster described below.

Functionality

CiviCRM via Systopia is free, open-source constituent-management software with a component-based architecture (CiviContribute for donations, CiviEvent, CiviMember, CiviMail, CiviCase, CiviCampaign, CiviGrant and more) that any organisation can activate selectively, running standalone or embedded inside a CMS such as WordPress or Drupal. What makes CiviCRM usable for German nonprofit administration (rather than merely internationally capable) is a cluster of extensions built substantially by the German agency Systopia: CiviSEPA for direct-debit mandates, CiviBanking for automated statement reconciliation, a Zuwendungsbescheinigung (donation-receipt) generator, and a dues/membership extension adapting CiviMember’s default Anglo-American model to European-style ongoing membership.

Localised features

CiviSEPA handles direct-debit mandates and XML-file generation, with automated CiviBanking bank-statement reconciliation. Individual or collective Zuwendungsbescheinigungen, Germany’s statutory donation-receipt format, can be generated, alongside DSGVO, German GDPR, compliant anonymisation and a ‘Kürschner’ German parliamentary-directory import tool.

Implementation model

You can self-host it yourself, or use a Systopia-led implementation. It’s freely self-hostable in principle. Systopia provides implementation, hosting, and the extension-development route that most German organisations use for these specific extensions.

Hosting

You can choose: self-hosted, or a specialist hosting/SaaS partner. Civiservice.de states hosting in a certified German data centre.
