Organisation & background
Frappe Technologies Pvt. Ltd., based in Mumbai, was founded in 2008 by Rushabh Mehta and remains a fairly small team. ERPNext is a mature ERP licensed under GNU GPL v3, and its nonprofit features are used in a large deployment at PRADAN.
Functionality
ERPNext for Non-Profits is the nonprofit feature set of ERPNext, an open-source ERP built on the Frappe framework that also covers accounting, HR, inventory and projects. It covers donor records with tax receipts, membership types with automatic invoicing, chapters, scored grant applications, volunteer tracking and multi-currency general-ledger accounting, and staff can create new object types, workflows, permissions and reports themselves. Frappe distributes these features as a separate app, whose repository is archived, and its documentation warns that the app may not work with current ERPNext versions.
Localised features
Generates India’s 80G tax-exemption certificates, which donors need to claim a deduction: once the NGO’s 80G number, effective date and PAN are set, certificates are filled in and printed for each donation, with year-end certificates for memberships.
Implementation model
By technically capable organisations, or through a partner; the PRADAN deployment used the certified partner Indictrans Technologies for a phased implementation.
Hosting
Hosted on Frappe Cloud or self-hosted on the organisation’s own infrastructure.
