Blackbaud Grantmaking

Organisation & background

Blackbaud, Inc. was founded in 1981. Blackbaud Grantmaking traces to Blackbaud’s 2015 acquisition of MicroEdge, whose GIFTS product underlies it, and is licensed separately from Raiser’s Edge NXT.

Functionality

Blackbaud Grantmaking is a cloud system built specifically for funders (foundations and corporate giving programmes) to manage the whole grant cycle from application through to payment and outcomes reporting. Applicants apply online through a configurable, multi-stage form, while staff review and score applications, check applicant tax status against watchlists, approve awards and track payments against budgets. A separate Outcomes add-on lets funders map their grants against the UN Sustainable Development Goals and report on real-world impact. Everything centres on three linked records (Requests, Organisations and Contacts) giving funders one view of a grantee across every application and grant made.

Localised features

Multi-currency display is supported per programme, with no live exchange-rate feed; custom calculation logic can be built for specific customers on request. The Applicant and Grantee Portal supports funder-provided multilingual content, with AI first-pass translation for review. It’s explicitly not compliant with WCAG 2.1, the international web-accessibility standard.

Implementation model

Delivered directly by the vendor’s own team: Each package bundles a set number of Blackbaud-delivered implementation hours, with additional hours at extra cost.

Hosting

Cloud-hosted by the vendor (entirely Blackbaud-hosted).
