Organisation & background
SmartSimple Software Inc., based in Toronto, Canada, was founded in 2002. It merged with Foundant Technologies, based in Bozeman, Montana, in 2024, later uniting with GivingData, positioning the combined group as a global grantmaking-software provider rather than a single purpose-built product.
Functionality
SmartSimple Cloud is a configurable cloud platform for grantmakers, research funders, scholarship programmes and corporate social responsibility teams. Rather than arriving ready-made, it is set up by an administrator or implementation team to match each organisation’s process, from application through review, decision and payment. Its Universal Tracking Application lets administrators define what is being tracked, such as a grant application or a case, with up to two further levels for related items like payments, progress reports and their line items. Each level has its own custom fields, templates, statuses and workflows, and Report Builder Neo handles reporting.
Localised features
A UK government G-Cloud marketplace listing was found, indicating public-sector procurement availability there rather than a Canadian localisation feature.
Implementation model
Delivered directly by the vendor’s own team, following a structured, consultative configuration methodology: needs assessment, a client-approved plan, then build. A dedicated training track is provided for system administrators. A partner ecosystem of implementation and consulting firms also exists alongside this.
Hosting
Cloud-hosted by the vendor, hosted on AWS.
