Organisation & background
VolunteerHub was founded in 1996/97 by Dr. Michael Carr of Carr Engineering, Inc., based in Dublin, Ohio, originating from a Habitat for Humanity volunteer-registration tool. It has remained independently owned throughout, never part of a private-equity roll-up or acquisition, and was named Blackbaud Technology/ISV Partner of the Year in 2016 and 2019.
Functionality
VolunteerHub is a volunteer recruitment, scheduling and management platform for nonprofits. Opportunities are organised into events and event groups, with group reservations and waitlists, and volunteers are tagged into user groups that help them find relevant opportunities. Organisations can brand their sign-up site and create separate landing pages for particular events or audiences. Volunteers check in by kiosk, QR code or check-in code, or report their hours afterwards. Reporting, rewards and recognition, a multi-event editor and integrations with Blackbaud’s CRM products are included.
Localised features
Native Sterling Volunteers background-check integration automates the US volunteer-screening workflow, gating event registration on check completion and tracking renewal by clearance anniversary date. A separate native Checkr integration is also referenced.
Implementation model
Self-service: In-depth personalised training sessions included as standard for all plans, followed by ongoing self-service support.
Hosting
Cloud-hosted by the vendor: A public status page, status.volunteerhub.com, is maintained for uptime/incident transparency.
