iDonate.ie

Organisation & background

iDonate.ie was founded in Galway in 2011 by Paddy and Alan Coyne. It has a large number of causes supported since launch.

Functionality

iDonate is an Irish fundraising-page and crowdfunding platform rather than a full donor database: fundraisers set up pages under a registered cause, such as a charity, school or club, and iDonate passes the money collected to that cause each month. iFundraise serves organisations without charitable status, and Take The Challenge runs nomination-based challenge fundraising. Campaign types include personal crowdfunding, sponsored challenges with team leaderboards, and raffles, with customisable donation forms. A virtual-distance map supports challenge events, remembrance giving is available, and the iDonate Tap app turns a fundraiser’s phone into a contactless card reader.

Localised features

SIPO, Standards in Public Office Commission, compliance for political and referendum-related fundraising, an Irish-specific regime with no UK/US equivalent. Runs a monthly settlement cycle to the receiving cause, with PCI, the payment-card industry, compliant card processing, and card details are never visible to or stored by iDonate.

Implementation model

Self-service, with registration-based sign-up for causes. Individual fundraisers can also self-serve directly. Support is available by phone and email from a local Galway-based team, with bookable demos also offered.

Hosting

Cloud-hosted by the vendor, with PCI-compliant card processing.
