Organisation & background
CharityEngine is a US vendor based in the Naperville/Chicago area, operating since 1999. It positions itself explicitly against private-equity-backed competitors as an independently run company.
Functionality
CharityEngine is an all-in-one fundraising CRM built on a single database, with apps for people, donations, major-gift opportunities, campaigns, events, advocacy and peer-to-peer fundraising. Activities logged on each person record track donor interactions. Its query tool also drives automation, running scheduled reports, data transformations, trigger jobs and dynamic marketing audiences. Marketing covers email, direct mail and text-to-give, SustainerIQ retries failed recurring payments automatically, and reporting includes Microsoft Copilot features. Granular permissions control access.
Localised features
An exclusive Double the Donation integration handles employer matching-gift identification and follow-up, activated directly in CharityEngine’s web forms. A separate DonateStock integration lets donors route stock gifts to the organisation’s broker.
Implementation model
Self-service: Vendor-mediated administrator-consent model for user-account changes, plus vendor-guided onboarding, rather than a fully autonomous self-serve setup.
Hosting
Cloud-hosted by the vendor.
