Organisation & background
ThunderTix was founded in 2004 by Dawn Green and is operated by Thunder Data Systems, Inc., based in Austin, Texas. It’s bootstrapped, with no outside funding, and remains a small team.
Functionality
ThunderTix is ticketing and box-office software for performing-arts venues and nonprofits. It handles reserved, general-admission and hybrid seating across multiple venues, plus season subscriptions, flex passes and ‘Build Your Own’ packages that discount a chosen number of events. A patron search draws on purchase history to build targeted mailing lists, and settlement reports summarise each event. Card payments run through Stripe or Square, with funds paid straight to the organisation. Event listings embed on the organisation’s website, Zapier connects other tools, and the vendor offers a connector for querying data in plain English.
Localised features
Emails a major-donor acknowledgement letter automatically when a donation passes an admin-set threshold, with customisable US tax-deductibility wording. It also tracks in-kind donations and assigns donors to tiers such as ‘Benefactors’ based on rolling 12-month giving.
Implementation model
Self-service, with vendor support and no certified-partner network.
Hosting
Cloud-hosted by the vendor.
