Sumac

Organisation & background

Silent Partner Software, headquartered in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec, and renamed Societ in 2024, has a large base of nonprofit customers in many countries. Sumac predates its current ownership.

Functionality

Sumac is a cloud-based, modular CRM for nonprofits, marketed mainly as case-management software for human and social-service organisations such as shelters, food banks, health centres, hospices and family-support programmes, covering client intake, case notes and outcomes reporting. Add-on modules cover donations, memberships, volunteers and grant tracking, so organisations can build up a fuller system over time. Administrators can add their own fields, dropdowns, checkboxes and tabs, and specialised extensions and integrations connect it to other tools.

Localised features

States compliance with HIPAA, the US health-data privacy law, and PIPEDA, Canada’s federal privacy law. Canadian data hosting is offered as a distinct, named, non-default, option for organisations with data-residency requirements.

Implementation model

Delivered directly by the vendor’s own team: Personal-service onboarding included at no extra charge; a distinct 45-minute Executive Onboarding Session also offered.

Hosting

Hosted by the vendor on AWS, with Canadian data hosting available as an option. Users install a small client program on each computer to reach the database.
